Research Adviser
Acd_Adv.jpg (17646 bytes)Students are assigned to academic advisers for help in planning a program of study, and to serve as the official connection to the Graduate Division. There are three advisers in our program, and students are assigned to advisers on the basis of academic specialization. However, this assignment convention is flexible, to avoid situations where the Academic Adviser and Research Adviser would be the same person.

Academic advisers are members of the department Graduate Affairs committee. They also have formal responsibility for initiating faculty appointments to Masters and Ph.D qualifying exams and thesis committees. Upon entering the program, students should contact their Academic Adviser immediately to schedule a meeting. Students can learn their adviser assignments by checking in at the departmental office (room 354, Hutchison Hall). Students should meet with their Academic Adviser to determine which courses they will need to take in order to fulfill the program requirements.
