General areas of emphasis in my research program are the biochemistry and molecular biology of plant-microbe interactions and diseases of orchard crops. Current projects focus on abiotic stress predisposition to diseases caused by Phytophthora species, using model (tomato and Arabidopsis) and non-model (nursery ornamentals) systems. We are interested in the interaction of phytohormones and other signals that compromise resistance or prime the plant for susceptibility. Our applied research investigates fungal diseases of stone fruit species (Prunus), with an emphasis on canker complexes, brown rot, and selected post-harvest diseases.
