Students are encouraged to apply for both internal and external fellowships to help support their graduate education.
External Fellowships:
Students have successfully received fellowships from the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program and USDA National Needs Graduate Fellowship Program to support their graduate education.

Internal Fellowships:
Internal fellowships specific to the department will be announced by e-mail with application instructions each year.
The William J. Moller Scholarship was established to support a graduate student performing mission-oriented research on diseases of crops important to California agriculture.
The William B. Hewitt Scholarship was established to support a graduate student performing research in the department.
The Erna and Orville Thompson Award was established to support graduate students with assistantships, research support, and travel to professional meetings.
Travel Awards:
The Department is fortunate to be able to provide travel awards to graduate students each year. Below is a list of awards for travel. Travel awards will be announced by e-mail with application instructions each year.
The James and Mary DeVay Scholarship was established to support one $800 travel award each year.
The Jesse and Gloria Dubin Award was established in honor of Drs. W. H. English and E. E. Butler to support one $800 travel award each year.
The Leach Memorial Travel Award was established to support up to two $800 travel awards each year.
The Erna and Orville Thompson Travel Award was established to support up to five $800 travel awards each year.
The Thomas A. Shalla Award was established to support up to two $800 travel awards each year for graduate students studying virology.
The Irving R. Schneider Travel Award was established to support up to three $800 travel awards for graduate students studying virology.
