Prof. Joanne Emerson receives DOE Early Career Award!

Congratulations to Prof. Joanne Emerson who just received a 5-year U.S. Department of Energy Early Career Award for her research on soil viral ecology and biogeochemistry. The title of her grant is "Infective Viruses and Inert Virions: Illuminating Abundant Unknowns in Terrestrial Biogeochemical Cycles". The $750,000 award will fund research on the chemistry of viral particles and the spatiotemporal dynamics of viruses and their hosts in diverse soils, including in response to fire and changing climate. The DOE Early Career Program helps bolster the nation's scientific workforce by providing support to exceptional scientists early in their careers. Joanne is one of 76 scientists nationally to receive this prestigious award.  Additional information can be found at https://caes.ucdavis.edu/news/plant-pathologist-joanne-emerson-receives-department-energy-early-career-award
